Welcome Fr. Kevin Abels!
As I begin my pastorate here at this beautiful parish of Our Lady of Angels, the first thing I want to do is to thank two outstanding and holy priests that have served you so well over the years. Allow me to express my deepest thanks, on behalf of you good people of the parish, to Msgr Noone for his pastoral leadership here these last 11 years. Msgr Noone is a wonderful priest who has modeled for us the heart of the Good Shepherd to the people of OLA. He has worked hard, with your support, to fulfill the mission of Christ in Bay Ridge. I also would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his example and for being so kind and patient with me during this transition. I know I have big shoes to fill. We will never forget his leadership and presence here. I told Msgr Noone that he will always have a home here and assured him he would always be welcomed back at anytime. We will certainly have a proper mass of Thanksgiving for him once its safe to have in the near future. On behalf of the people of Our Lady of Angels, thank you Msgr Noone for a job well done!! We love you and will see you soon!
When Bishop Di Marzio gave me the wonderful news that I was being assigned as the new pastor of Our Lady of Angels, I was excited to know that I would be ministering with a very fine young priest, Fr Espinal. Then I was told that Fr Espinal was being named pastor at SS Peter and SS Paul in Williamsburg. Certainly our loss here is their gain! Fr Espinal is very talented and has a pastoral heart. He will be a wonderful Shepherd to the people of Williamsburg. I know many people in the parish, especially our Spanish Community, will miss his pastoral presence. I also wish to thank Fr Espinal for all that he has done here at OLA and we will also look forward to having a proper mass of Thanksgiving at a later time. God’s blessing upon the pastorship of Fr Espinal.
I want each of you to know that I am very excited about being named your new pastor! I truly look forward to meeting each and everyone of you in the near future! Please know that I love being a priest and see my role as working together with all of you, faithful parishioners of the parish and the staff, in continuing the good work in the parish. I ask you for your prayers as I promise to keep you in mine. I will rely on you to help me to get settled and adjusted to my new ministry. I cant wait to see all of you!! I will give you more details about me and my background in the coming weeks.!!!!
Thanks for Your Support!
